The event, which was founded and is directed by Oscar-winning film composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek ('Finding Neverland', 'Washington Square'), has become one of the most dynamic fixtures in Poland's cinematic calendar.

Festival-goers will be able to savour over 100 films, divided over a number of sections, such as 'Confrontations', which focuses on conflicts that affect today's world.

According to the festival organisers, the event is “an artistic platform to talk about the most important problems and challenges of the modern world.”

However, it's not all deadly earnest, with a section of B-movies, a children's film club, and culinary and sport sections to boot.

There will also be opportunities to meet with young composers, as well as various movers and shakers from the international and Polish film scenes.

Among the guests this year is Hollywood actor Joe Pantoliano, as well as writer and director Shem Bitterman.

The festival wraps up on 14 August. (nh/rk)
