The prize is awarded by The Superbrands Ltd., an independent arbiter on branding which operates in 80 countries, including Poland.
At a ceremony in Warsaw, Wednesday, Paweł Potoroczyn, the director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Poland's official cultural institute), which co-sponsors the award, described the Museum as "a place of reflection, culture, education and nostalgia, which in a record time has become an international brand, at the same time transforming the soul of the city and the axiological landscape of the whole country."
The Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews is located vis a vis the Monument to the Heroes of the Jewish Ghetto Uprising, in what was once the heart of Jewish Warsaw.
Its core exhibition, which opened in October 2014, presents the one-thousand-year-long history of Jewish presence on Polish lands. It also serves as a venue for lectures, debates, film show and concerts.
The Polin Museum is the first institution to receive the Polish Superbrands Award. Its past recipients were theatre directors Krzysztof Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna (2012), jazz trumpeter and composer Tomasz Stańko (2013) and film director Agnieszka Holland (2014). (mk/nh)
