Andrzej Żuławski polishes off comeback film 'Cosmos'

Veteran Polish director Andrzej Żuławski is finishing post-production on 'Cosmos', his first feature film in 15 years.

The movie, billed as a ''metaphysical noir thriller'', is an adaptation of the novel of the same title by celebrated author and wit Witold Gombrowicz (1904-1969).
The plot hinges on two students who rent a guesthouse room in the wilderness and become fascinated by a series of peculiar occurrences.
A Franco-Portugeuse co-production shot in French, 'Cosmos' stars Jean-François Balmer, Sabine Azéma, Johan Libéreau and Jonathan Genet.
Żuławski has long been known for his uncompromising approach to film-making.
''To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema,'' he once reflected.
''As far as I’m concerned, I don’t make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence.''
His second film 'The Devil' (1972) was banned in communist Poland, causing the director to work in France for many years.
Żuławski said last month that he hoped his new film would be ready for a world premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival (13 May-24 May). However, confirmation is still pending. (nh)
