Poland’s public broadcaster Polish Radio – which incorporates Radio Poland – increased its digital terrestrial DAB+ coverage from 1 April.

Polish Radio Chairman Andrzej Siezieniewski announced the roll out, Wednesday, saying that DAB+ signals can now be received in the urban agglomerations of Białystok, Koszalin, Lublin, Olsztyn, Rzeszów and Zielona Góra.

As a result of the wider reception area, DAB+ reception is now available to 52 percent of Poland’s population with around 37 percent of Poland’s territory covered by DAB+ signals.

Polish Radio also started regular broadcasts of a new station, ‘Radio Dzieciom’ – ‘Radio for Kids’, which is dedicated to pre-school youngsters with mainly educational and entertaining shows. In the evenings, programmes will be aimed at parents.

Polish Radio is the first broadcaster in the region to embrace DAB+ technology, with transmissions commencing on 1 October 2013. Plans for the entire country to be covered by DAB+ signals are expected to be complete by 2020.

Along with Polish Radio’s domestic channels including stations exclusive to DAB+, such as PR24, listeners in Poland can also tune in to Radio Poland. (jb)
