Director Paweł Pawlikowski’s film won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film last week. The Polish-born Pawlikowski said he was thrilled and honoured, saying “this is a unique and amazing deal for Polish cinema, for me personally and for my team.”
President Komorowski said that it is proof that Poland can show the world good and interesting films. It is also an example of how a film evokes discussion, and “in-depth reflection on the various aspects of life,” President Komorowski said.
“It pays to make wise decisions that involve risks. But you can see excellent results when it comes not only to showing the world interesting Polish cinema, but also to achieve [...] such a special success,” Komorowski stressed.
The meeting was attended by the film’s main actress, Agata Trzebuchowska, as well as Aneta Kopacz and Tomasz Śliwiński, the creators of the short films – Joanna and Our Curse, which were nominated for this year’s Short Documentary Film Oscars. (ps/jb)
