Pawel Pawlikowski, whose film 'Ida' won the coveted golden statuette on Sunday, told Poland's TVN station that his triumph would ''certainly not'' change his approach to film-making or his way of life.

''A director or a screenwriter must quite simply create his own world,'' he said.

''And Hollywood absolutely does not excite me,'' he added.

''Here in Los Angeles - God forbid.

''No such thing enters my head.''

Pawlikowski, who emigrated from Poland with his family as a teenager, made his breakthrough in the UK with the 2004 film 'My Summer of Love.'

'Ida', which explores the plight of a novitiate nun who discovers her Jewish roots, was his first movie made in his homeland.

Prior to 'Ida', Poland was nominated nine times in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. Four of those went to Andrzej Wajda, who ultimately won the Academy Honorary Award in 1999, ''in recognition of five decades of extraordinary film direction."

Wajda said on Monday that Ida's win had given him ''a beautiful day in my life,'' adding that Pawklikowski had made a ''superb'' film. (nh)
