EU 'Creative Europe' programme promises funding

All in all, approximately 1.8 million euro may be allocated for the programme, taking in both EU member states and other European countries participating in the EC's Culture and Media programme.

“The Commission has established a schedule, according to which the first applications could be made right at the end of this year,” noted Anna Hieropolitanska, head of the state-backed Cultural Contact Point, a wing of Poland's cultural institute devoted to helping Polish institutions apply for EU funding.

Speaking to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), she stressed that dates are nevertheless dependent on the overall budget negotiations for 2014-2020, but added that as far as Creative Europe is concerned, “for the time being there is no talk about cuts.”

At present, about 900 million euro are set to be allocated to film-makers and the audio-visual sector. However, the programme encompasses all areas of the arts, from architecture to literature (the latter with an emphasis on translation).

“The European Commission has always given priority to co-financing projects that are effective, interesting, innovative, and those which offer possibilities for different countries and institutions to cooperate in a viable way,” Hieropolitanska noted. (nh)
