Chiara Enderle wins Lutosławski cello contest

Chiara Enderle from Swizerland is the winner of the 9th Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in Warsaw.

Poland’s Dominik Płociński and Victor Garcia Garcia of Spain shared the second prize and Edward Alexander King coming in third.

A total of 42 young cellists, from France, Russia, Latvia, Turkey, Ukraine, South Korea, Japan and the United States entered the competition, one of numerous events marking the Witold Lutoslawski Year, the composer’s birth centenary.

The twenty one-year old Chiara Enderle was born in Zurich into a family of musicians.

She currently studies in Berlin under the guidance of Peter Maintz.

Highlights in her career include solo performances at the Salzburg Festival and London’s Wigmore Hall, as well as concerts with numerous orchestras. She also plays in a trio with her parents.

In addition to a cash prize, she was offered an engagement for a concert at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw. (mk/pg)
