The concert, coinciding with the 50th birthday of group leader Axel Rose, begins at 9 pm and is expected to last about three hours.

In a special message to the town inhabitants, the mayor of Rybnik, Adam Fudali, says he is aware that for some people the late-night concert can prove a nuisance and so he appeals for understanding, stressing that “the Guns N’Roses show is a guarantee of a high-calibre, though admittedly a very loud, musical feast.”

The group will perform at the city’s sports stadium, on a huge stage (14 metres high and 21 metres wide) and will use 650 kW amplifier units.

Last year Rybnik, a town of around 140,000 inhabitants, was the venue of the gig by Bryan Adams, an event which proved to be an excellent promotion for the town.

Mayor Adam Fudali hopes tonight’s concert will be a no less spectacular promotion.

This is Guns N'Roses’s second gig in Poland. They performed in Warsaw in 2006. The group have sold over 100 million CDs since their debut in 1985. (mk/jb)
