Girl in coma after long period in scorching conditions

A 6-year-old Polish girl is in a coma in a hospital in Croatia after her parents left her for 45 minutes in a hot car.
The family had arrived on the Croatian island of Krk last Saturday, yet the couple did not notice that the child had remained inside the car as they moved into a holiday apartment.
It is thought that the temperature in the car could have reached 50 degrees Celsius, while 30-plus temperatures soared outside.
Doctors say that the little girl’s condition has stabilised but continues to be very serious – she has suffered severe heat stroke with damage to kidneys, liver and brain.
Croatian police have since fined the 31-year-old couple for negligence. (ek/jb)
