Speaking at the opening of the Warsaw Humanitarian Expo 2019, Czaputowicz said: “We have increased the amount of humanitarian assistance six-fold since 2015.”
He added: “Of course, in comparison to much richer countries it is not maybe a very big amount, but for Poland it is a real signal of our solidarity with persons in need.”
The Humanitarian Expo, being held in Nadarzyn near Warsaw, aims to encourage Polish businesses to be more active in international humanitarian aid and development projects.
Funds allocated by the Polish government for humanitarian aid this year are expected to reach PLN 128 million (around EUR 30m, USD 34m), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Meanwhile, Poland allocated PLN 2.8 billion for development assistance in 2018, up from PLN 1.6 billion three years earlier, according to IAR.
Poland is carrying out development aid projects in Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Ukraine, IAR added.
The Warsaw Humanitarian Expo runs until Thursday.
