The Visegrad Group is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Ahead of the meeting, Ewa Suwara, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry in Warsaw, said Poland’s top diplomat Jacek Czaputowicz would propose discussing topics in the Slovak capital including Syria, Iran, the Western Balkans and transatlantic relations.

Suwara added: "The aim of the meeting between the Visegrad Group and France is to identify common areas of cooperation. For all of us, France is an important partner."

From Bratislava, Czaputowicz was set to fly to Ankara, where he was expected to take part in three-way talks between Poland, Romania and Turkey on Friday.

Suwara said that meeting was expected to tackle issues including challenges facing NATO, transatlantic relations and EU security initiatives.
