Jacek Czaputowicz on Monday signed a book of condolence for the murdered politician at the headquarters of Poland’s Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, the office said in a tweet.
The 53-year-old mayor of Poland's Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, died last Monday from severe wounds inflicted by a knifeman during a high-profile annual fundraiser called the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
"I express my condolences and share the pain and loss with the family and relatives of Mayor Paweł Adamowicz," Czaputowicz wrote.
He added: “This thoughtless act of violence against someone who helped others fills me with a strong sense of opposition. I am shocked by what happened and stand united with you in mourning."
Czaputowicz was in Brussels to attend a two-day meeting of EU foreign ministers focusing on the bloc’s relations with international partners.
Poland’s prime minister, president and former heads of state and government on Saturday took part in a funeral service for the slain mayor, whose violent death shocked the country.
