According to the Polish foreign ministry, the pair discussed Poland’s support for Georgia as it aspires to join the European Union and NATO.
“Poland believes that continuing the process of European integration guarantees long-term stability and economic development on the whole European continent,” Czaputowicz said on Wednesday.
He also said that NATO summits in 2016 and 2018 “clearly reaffirmed that the doors to NATO remain open for Georgia”.
According to Czaputowicz, Poland also wants to do more trade, especially of farmed goods, with Georgia, and to boost Polish investment and tourism.
Czaputowicz and Zalkaliani said that infrastructural links between Poland and Europe’s east, which would pass through Georgia, should be a priority to ties between the countries.
While in Warsaw, Zalkaliani and Czaputowicz opened the third so-called Tbilisi Conference, a forum where Polish experts share with Georgia know-how for forging closer ties with the European Union. The conference focused on energy and culture.
Also on Wednesday, the lower house of Polish parliament adopted a resolution commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Russo-Georgian war of August 2008.
Czaputowicz said that Poland’s respect for Georgia’s territorial integrity is “unwavering.”
