Poland’s Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz was on Tuesday set to preside over a UN Security Council briefing on developments in Ukraine.

The top Polish diplomat was expected to deliver a speech during the briefing in New York, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.
In his speech, Czaputowicz was expected to "raise the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict as a key challenge for the European security system and world order based on respect for international law," the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.
Czaputowicz was later on Tuesday scheduled to meet his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin for talks, the Polish foreign ministry said.
Czaputowicz last week chaired a United Nations Security Council debate in New York on protecting civilians in armed conflicts. During the debate, he said that Ukraine was still a target of military aggression and its territory continued to be illegally occupied.
Earlier this month, Polish President Andrzej Duda chaired a UN Security Council debate during which he said that international law was fundamental to world order.
Poland on January 1 became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term that ends on December 31, 2019.
The country on May 1 assumed the month-long rotating presidency of the 15-member Council.
Czaputowicz in late April said that Poland’s priorities for its UN Security Council presidency included "strengthening the role of international law, promoting the effective resolution of conflicts, ensuring the protection of civilians, and emphasising the importance of humanitarian law.”
