The talks between Poland’s Antoni Macierewicz and his visiting Estonian counterpart Jüri Luik focused on ways of strengthening NATO battalion-sized battle groups stationed in Poland and the Baltic states and on creating “a unified chain of command,” according to Macierewicz.
Other priorities discussed at the meeting included strengthening maritime and air defence as well as cybersecurity, an area in which “Estonia has great achievements,” Macierewicz said after the talks on Monday evening.
He added that Poland and Estonia shared a common position on the issues discussed at the meeting.
"We have a common vision and we are taking joint action," he said.
Estonia's Luik said that Poland was an important defence ally for his country and for NATO as a whole.
"During the meeting we talked about our bilateral military cooperation, which is very intense," Luik told reporters, adding that Poland played an important role on NATO's eastern flank. (gs/pk)
