The prime ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have been invited to Warsaw to talk about EU laws on so-called posted workers which could hit Central and Eastern European transport companies.

Under those laws, truck drivers working outside of their home country would have to be paid at least the minimum wage of the country they are in. Polish transport companies have said this would make them less competitive in the European Union.

The prime ministers are also expected to discuss regional policy, developing road and rail links, and security and bilateral talks have also been planned.

During a recent visit to Poland, Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser thanked Poland for its involvement in boosting NATOs eastern flank, amid heightened concerns over Russian aggression.

“We work together very closely and have a similar assessment of the threat to security,” Mikser said. (vb/pk)
