Islamic State-related activity is going on in Poland but there is no threat of a terror attack in the country, a spokesman for the special services chief has said ahead of a sentence expected later on Monday for four people suspected of supporting ISIS.
Four Chechen nationals are accused of fundraising and recruiting for IS, after allegedly sending EUR 8,000 to Turkey in 2014 to fund conflict in Syria and Iraq.
But the four have said the money was for the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, and that conversations in which they spoke about Syria were misunderstood.
The special services chief's spokesman said the case of the four Chechens did not raise Poland’s terror threat but it was not an isolated incident.
Poland is a transit country for IS fighters and there have been suspected cases of Polish nationals working for IS.
Among them, Adam al-N., whose name has been withheld under Polish privacy laws, was suspected of being an IS militant and was found in a Jordanian jail. (vb)
