Polish and Norwegian FMs to discuss Baltic Pipe on Friday

The planned construction of a gas pipeline to supply Poland from the North Sea will be discussed on Friday by the Polish and Norwegian foreign ministers.

Polish minister Witold Waszczykowski and his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende will meet in Warsaw.
“Ministers Witold Waszczykowski and Borge Brende will discuss bilateral cooperation and prospects for its strengthening, especially in the area of energy,” a spokeswoman for the Polish foreign ministry has said.
She added that the most important issue in this area is the plan to build the Baltic Pipe natural gas pipeline within the framework of the Northern Corridor project.
This project aims to diversify gas supplies by connecting the Polish gas system with deposits situated in the North Sea.
The Baltic Pipe, which is set to stretch 230 km, will transport gas to Poland from Norway via Denmark.
On the agenda are also issues related to security and the future of transatlantic relations.
"In addition to cooperation in the field of security, Poland and Norway are connected by their shared perception of the situation in the eastern regions of the EU, the activity in the Baltic Sea area and the Arctic,” she said, adding that co-operation within the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism remains “a dynamic area of political dialogue”.
