Polish PM attends 16+1 summit in Riga

Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło on Saturday travelled to the Latvian capital to attend the 16+1 summit of European countries and China.

Ahead of the meeting, she met Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang, as well as the heads of government of Latvia, and Serbia.
The 16+1 format is an initiative by the People’s Republic of China aimed at intensifying and expanding cooperation with 11 EU Member States and five Balkan countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Macedonia – in the fields of investments, transport, finance, science, education, and culture.
“This summit is an important one for our region,” Szydło said, adding that “Poland hopes to find solutions to transport and infrastructure issues.”
Ahead of the meeting, Szydło said that: “Poland has high hopes to continue economic cooperation with China.” (rg)
