“The power of the western world depends on the strength of ties between Europe and the USA,” President Bronislaw Komorowski has said at the opening of the Wroclaw Global Forum, which aims to provide a platform for politicians and academics to discuss economic and political issues.

Participants of the Forum, ministers, diplomats, and intellectuals from the world over are meeting in the south-western Polish city to discuss major global issues.
The two-day debates are the largest meeting of the kind in Europe. The main topics up for discussion are relations between Europe and the USA, the global financial crisis, energy security, the EU’s Eastern Partnership Programme, which aims to bring ex-Soviet states closer to the West, as well as the situation in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The Wroclaw Global Forum is being attended by US senator John McCain, Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat, members of the Belarusian opposition as well as Israa Abdel Fattah, one of the founders of the April 6 Egyptian Youth Movement. (ab/jb)
