Two Polish journalists detained by Macedonian police

"I was arrested by Macedonian police on charges of illegal border crossing, along with refugees from Greece in the village of Gevgeljia. Thousands of immigrants from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan come this way to get into Europe," Rigamonti wrote on a social networking site.

This was also reportedly confirmed by his wife, journalist Magdalena Rigamonti, who was allowed to call the detainee.

The Polish Press Club (PPC) said Hunin is a Belgian journalist with Polish citizenship.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Marcin Wojciechowski told the Polish press agency, PAP, that he was aware of the case. "Our facility in Skopje is already taking steps," he said.

According to President of PCP Jaroslaw Wlodarczyk, the two journalists were preparing press materials about refugees on the Greek-Macedonian border in the village of Gevgeljia.

"They were detained by Macedonian police on charges of illegally crossing the border, despite the fact that last night police let them across the border," he added. (jh/rk)
