The woman's death was confirmed by the mayor of the Andalusian capital after attempts to save the student failed at a local hospital.
The accident occurred at about 1 am on Saturday, and it is understood that the Erasmus student from Lublin had been trying to photograph herself from the boulevard that runs along the river.
She was apparently trying to include the famed Triana Bridge (Puente de Triana) in the picture, but she lost her balance and fell 7 metres, sustaining critical injuries.
The victim, a student at the Medical University in Lublin, had been on an Erasmus exchange in Murcia, and was visiting Seville for the weekend.
“We're deeply shocked by this needless death,” commented Wlodzimierz Matysiak, a spokesman for the Medical University of Lublin.
“On a Sunday we were trying to make contact with the consul all day long, so as to work out the details of a possible transport to Lublin, as we were considering the possibility of further treatment in one of our clinics.
“Our thoughts are with her parents, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends.” (nh)
