UAE 'a key partner for Poland'

Minister Sikorski hosted his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Warsaw, where the two discussed the countries' cooperation in NATO, burgeoning economic ties, and the problems in Syria and Ukraine.

“During the last 25 years of our freedom, the United Arab Emirates became one of Poland's main partners for political dialogue and economic exchange,” Sikorski said.

“Our economic co-operation is growing impressively,” he noted.

“In 2013, our exports to and imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded 750 million dollars and 110 million dollars,” he said.

“We expect the trade volume between both countries to reach a billion dollars in 2014.”

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan's visit follows on from President Bronislaw Komorowski's December 2013 trips to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, opening a Polish-UAE economic forum in the latter.

“We see Poland as a country that has not been affected by the international financial crisis and this is a very strong sign for us to strengthen cooperation both in the fields of commerce and energy, as well as in the sphere of culture,” the sheikh said.

During Tuesday's meeting, the foreign ministers signed agreements on further cooperation between the two foreign ministries. Crown prince Sheikh General Mohammad Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan is scheduled to visit Poland later this year. (nh)
