Russians sentenced for flare attack on Polish embassy

Thirty -year-old Defendant Konstantin Makarov said that the action on Wednesday morning was a “symmetrical” response to the attack on the Russian embassy in Warsaw during an Independence Day march by far-right Polish activists.

All of the three Russian defendants are associated with the far-left Other Russia group, an unregistered party founded by former leader of the banned National Bolshevik Party, Eduard Limonov.

During Wednesday's incident, one of the Russian activists carried a banner proclaiming that there should be a “Russia from Warsaw to Port Arthur.”

Meanwhile, one of the men who attacked the Russian embassy compound in Warsaw has been charged with damaging property.

Kamil Z. (name withheld under Polish privacy laws) is pleading not guilty and is refusing to answer the police's questions.

74 people have now been arrested in connection with the disorder in Warsaw on Monday.

Foreign ministry spokesman Marcin Wojciechowski apologised to Russian ambassador Alexander Alekseev, expressing “deep regret over the deplorable excesses” of the day. (nh)
