The Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) NGO says aid workers should arrive on the Syrian – Turkish border Tuesday, to administer much-needed aid to thousands fleeing the civil war in Syria.

“PAH should be able to enter Syrian territory by tomorrow,” the charity's Katarzyna Razplewicz has told Polish Radio.

The charity will be brining with it medicines for the parasitic disease Leishmaniasis, currently ravaging refugee camps.

PAH will also be bringing a consignment of water purification tablets and bread.

“There is virtually no help arriving and we are one of few organizations that have managed to enter [the area] and provide basic items to refugees,” says Monika Korowajczyk-Sujkowska, one of PAH's coordinators in the region.

Nearly half a million Syrians have fled to neighbouring Turkey - with up to one million expected by the end of the year – as the civil war continues to escalate, with the conflict now spreading to within rebel groups. (pg)
