Poland's ruling Civic Platform will vote, alongside other centre and centre-right parties, in the European Parliament today for the so-called 'six-pack' reforms aimed at tackling the debt crisis in the Eurozone.
The vote, supported by the EPP group of which the Civic Platform and Polish Peasant Party coalition are a part, aims to strengthen financial discipline in the 17 Eurozone nations in the EU.
Though the six laws will be opposed by Greens and the Socialist grouping of MEPs, ithe measure is expected to gain enough votes to pass at 12.00 CET, Wednesday.
The so-called ‘six pack’ on economic governance introduces swifter sanctions for countries that breach the EU’s 3 percent GDP deficit limit, as laid down by the Growth and Stability pact that all nations using the euro single currency must abide by.
It also introduces a new imbalances procedure with sanctions for countries that fail to address ballooning trade deficits. (pg)
